Why Become a Healthcare Assistant?

Before we dive into the training process, let’s first understand why becoming a Healthcare Assistant is a great career choice. Here are a few reasons to consider:

  1. Job Stability: The healthcare industry is growing rapidly, and there is a high demand for trained professionals. As a Healthcare Assistant, you can enjoy job security and stability.
  2. Rewarding Work: Being able to make a positive impact on people’s lives and help them during their most vulnerable moments is incredibly rewarding. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will have the opportunity to do just that.

Career Opportunities: Working as a Healthcare Assistant can open doors to various career paths within the healthcare field. Whether you decide to specialise in a particular area or pursue further education, the possibilities are endless.

How can I get into this sector? How quickly can I start working?

It is easy to get into the healthcare sector. To become a Healthcare Assistant in Ireland, you must obtain a relevant QQI Level 5 qualification or an equivalent award. It is essential that you complete your QQI training with an accredited provider. To start working as soon as possible, there is the requirement (within many organisations) that you have completed at least these two modules:

  •         5N2770 – Care Skills,
  •         5N2706 – Care of the Older Person.

Your employer will also need your commitment to continue to work towards earning your Major Award in healthcare. You should also discuss your training requirements with any potential employers (as expectations may differ for some organisations).
