Holistic Care of the Child (0-6 Years) (5C21525):
This module explores the whole development and well-being of young children, addressing their physical, emotional, social, language and cognitive development. It emphasises the importance of a nurturing environment, proper nutrition, hygiene, and safety while also fostering positive relationships and emotional security. Learners will learn how to create an environment that supports children’s independence, resilience, and overall growth through responsive caregiving and best practices in early childhood.
Followed by,
Curriculum, Play & Creative Studies (5C21527)
This module explores the role of play in early learning and care, emphasising the role of play on a child’s social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development. The module also introduces key early years curriculum frameworks, such as Aistear and Síolta, helping students develop skills in planning and implementing engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children.
Once you’re ready to continue, complete your Major Award with four additional modules:

The programme modules through their content, provide alignment with Aistear and Síolta frameworks, allowing you to develop a strong foundation of knowledge to provide environments for children that are both sustaining and stimulating.
Professional Practice Placement is required for this programme should you move on to complete it in full. This involves practicing in a Professional environment with children, families and knowledgeable early years educators. It is a great opportunity to put theory into practice and to develop confidence in your practice.
Pathway to QQI Level 6 Certificate
When you finish the programme, you can expect to begin effectively engaging with children 0-6 years in a range of early learning and care settings, preparing you to begin on your journey towards the QQI Level 6 Certificate.
Compliance with National Qualifications Framework
Working in Early Years Education in Ireland requires you to be guided by the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) as it relates to the Childcare Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016, to work with children in a childcare setting, at least a major qualification is required in Early Learning and Care at Level 5 .
