Furthermore, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) highlights that the old dependency ratio, which is the number of people aged 65 and over relative to those of working age, is projected to rise from 24% in 2016 to as high as 45% by 2051 (CSO, 2023). Truthfully, the crisis is simply a gap between the rising number of people requiring support and the number of qualified professionals available to provide it.
