The National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) develops, recognizes, and awards all qualifications in the country. It serves as a frame of reference and incorporates all awards in education and training. The learners can gain from it as it aids in the planning of their education and training, as well as in assisting them in making educated decisions and identifying possible career paths. Furthermore, NFQ is recognised on a national and international level. Quality and Qualifications Ireland is an autonomous governmental organisation that was founded in 2012. It is in charge of supporting excellence and accountability in Irish education and training. Additionally, QQI supervises the quality and maintenance of the Irish National Framework of Qualificatons. If you are curious and want to learn more about QQI Levels 5 and 6, this post is for you!

What are “levels”?

Each level specifies a range of expectations for the knowledge, abilities, and competence that students should have obtained. Even if they are not standards in and of themselves, levels can be defined in an orderly sequence. Instead of adhering to a preset list of specific requirements, the indicators allow award-types to be matched to levels based on overall best-fit. Award-type levels are fairly practical constructions that have grown through time. The framework is built upon the structure provided by level indicators. Level indicators are general definitions of learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, ability, as well as competence at a particular level.

QQI Level 5

The QQI level 5 award emphasises vocational skills and calls for a deep understanding of theory. Levels 4 and 5 make up the Leaving Certificate. It is the final level available in Ireland’s secondary school system. It necessitates at least two years of education. Students who have been awarded may be able to pursue additional education. Behavior management, workplace health and safety, care of persons, and care skills are topics that frequently appear in level 5 courses. After Level 5 is completed, students can start working or applying to a range of higher education institutions and programmes.

QQI Level 6

With the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate, students may further their education and develop a wide range of skills. These might pertain to a particular position or be more broadly supervisory in nature. They also require a deep theoretical foundation. The topics covered at this level include advanced vocational and occupational skills. A level 6 certificate also increases employability. It typically takes two years to obtain this certificate. Both high school graduates and those with equivalent qualifications are eligible for entry into a Higher Certificate programme. Students may continue to a programme on the next level of the framework if they possess a certificate at this level.
