Early learning

What is the Early Learning and Care sector all about?

Early Learning and Care or ELC is a sector driven by the best interests of the child on all levels of their development and wellbeing. It is one of support and care for everyone involved, from the children and their families, to the staff working with them. It is now known that the experiences children have while in daycare and preschool shape the adults they will become. Those who have access to meaningful and purposeful experiences with adults who show care, respect, and a joy for engaging with children, go on to do better in society and achieve better outcomes in all areas of their education. For those of us working in the ELC sector, this is what drives us.

Why join the Early Learning and Care sector?

The Early Learning and Care sector is moving and evolving at a very rapid pace, and is quickly becoming a career that many want to become part of and progress in. When you join the Early Years sector, you are making a definite statement in that you want to be an adult who supports the development of the next generation, with a goal of helping them become the best version of themselves.

So are you someone who is looking for a change in career and have always wanted to work with children? Or would you like to get back to work after a break?  It can be a daunting experience to change direction or take on a new goal. You will have doubts and perhaps uncertainties and these are normal.  But ask yourself, do I find joy in children? Do they make me smile? Do I enjoy their stories and watching them play? Do I want to help children in their development and learning, and ensure that they have access to purposeful and meaningful experiences that will shape who they become? If you answer yes to these questions then a career in the ECL sector is waiting for you.

Upskilling and the Benefits

For those working within the sector, you have already seen the impact an adult can have on a child’s development and learning, and know the important role you play. As the sector is becoming more professional and respected for the important work we do, you know that legislation and regulations are changing in terms of those who work in a mentoring and leading role. We want to see our experienced and passionate practitioners who work closely with children, families, and colleagues take on these mentoring and leading roles. Upskilling is the key to achieving this. Gaining new qualifications in Level 6 will provide you with the skills and reflective capacity needed to rise to the challenge and take on these very important roles in our ELC settings. We know continuing professional development plays a vital role in our own development and in ensuring we provide the best quality experiences possible. So, take on the challenge, upskill, share your experience and knowledge with others, and continue to influence the lives of children and their families.
